We build the brand that turns your pitch into conviction and your product into a category.

Does your deck have 40 slides and yet investors still do not quite understand it?

Branding for startups is the process of defining how the market perceives your company before it does so on its own. It includes positioning, narrative, visual and verbal identity. For seed-stage or Series A startups, a clear brand accelerates closing rounds and reduces friction in sales and talent acquisition.

The product works. The team knows it. But as soon as you step outside the team —to an investor, to an enterprise client, to a senior candidate with three offers on the table— the message gets diluted. Each co-founder explains the startup differently. The website looks like it was made over a weekend because it was. The name sounds good internally but says nothing outside.

It is not a product problem. It is a framing problem. Without a brand, you force each interlocutor to build their own interpretation of what you do and why it wins. And they rarely build the one you want.

What changes when the brand works in your favour

  • The pitch gets shorter: when the narrative is clear, investors ask how instead of what. That means they have already bought into the premise.

  • The team speaks with a single voice: faster onboarding, less internal friction, a culture that can be exported when you scale.

  • The product is perceived as more expensive than it costs: a well-built brand justifies premium pricing before the product proves it on its own. A clearly differentiated value proposition is what sustains that price.

  • Talent acquisition stops depending solely on salary: people want to belong to something that has a name and a purpose. The brand is the argument that money cannot replicate.

Our process does not start with a logo. It starts with an uncomfortable question.

  1. Brand diagnosis: we audit the gap between what you believe you are and what the market sees, inside and out.

  2. Brand strategy and positioning: we define the category you want to own, not just the space you currently occupy.

  3. Narrative: a story that works in the deck, on the website, in the first email to a client, and in a thirty-second conversation.

  4. Identity: visual, verbal, attitudinal, and sensory universe. All consistent, all scalable from day one.

  5. Activation: we deliver a design system and guidelines so your team can execute without relying on us every time they need a piece.

Startups that have already built their brand with us

Umami, Xama, Acttiv, Kaatch, Pakke, and Yuuju went through Crater in early stages. With Umami, we worked on research, strategy, naming, identity, website, and app. With Xama, we handled strategy, identity, website, and growth.

What you get is a positioning that fits into a single sentence and a brand system that your team can apply without us: in the deck, on the website, and in the first email to an enterprise client.

If you want to see how each project was solved, we will show you in our first conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Is it not too early to invest in branding if we are still validating?

If you are talking to investors or hiring, it is already too late to improvise. Brand is not the step after product; it is part of the validation. Every meeting where you fail to get your interlocutor to understand what you do and why you win is a meeting that costs you real money. Waiting to have "more traction" to work on the brand is like asking for funding with an unformatted Excel spreadsheet: the numbers might be good, but the signal you send does not help.

How long does a brand project for a startup take?

Between four and eight weeks for strategy and core identity. The starting point matters —it is not the same to start from scratch as it is to reposition a brand that already has a market— and the speed of internal decision-making does too. Projects that drag on rarely do so because of the work; they drag on because of internal approval cycles.

Can we just do the visual part and leave the strategy for later?

We can, but we do not recommend it. A visual identity without a brand strategy behind it is decoration. It works until someone asks you why your visual universe is the way it is, or until you need to extend the brand to a new product or market. At that point, without a strategy, you start from scratch again.

Do you work with startups in highly technical or regulated sectors?

Yes. Part of our job is to translate technical complexity into market language without losing rigour. We have worked with teams whose product required explaining concepts that most generalist investors are not familiar with. The challenge is not to simplify to the point of emptying; it is to find the framing that makes the complex seem inevitable.

Is naming included in the branding process?

It depends on the starting point. If the current naming works in your target market, we do not touch it. If there is friction —pronunciation, connotations in other languages, saturation in the sector— we assess it in the diagnosis phase and address it before building the visual universe on top of something that will not hold up.

Before your next investor meeting, let us talk.

If you have a round on the horizon or an active talent acquisition process, a 45-minute diagnosis session can change what you bring to the next meeting. Not to sell you a project. But so you leave with clarity on where the gap lies between who you are and what the market perceives.

No obligation. Just professional insight.

Crater works from Madrid with tech and healthtech startups in Spain and Europe.
